When I see an old image like that - one with a black man on a custom cycle - I wonder if the power of the bike overcame the suspicion and prejudice that were so common in those days?
I suspect that it did. I bet white, yellow, and other colored guys who loved motorcycles swallowed their pride, walked up to those guys, and talked about motorcycles.
The experience of building custom motorcycles can bridge a lot of gaps. Motherfuckers on the internet should remember that and quite worrying about what style of custom bike someone builds.
Jughead I think you just said it.." Motherfuckers on the internet" It's the interenet! I can't recall being anywhere and hearing about guys being kooks about what kinda bike someone else was riding.
This photo is iconic. It was on the back of our national club roster a few years back. That '47 Knuckle bobjob was state of the art for that era. Love the riders gear also. Especially those tortise shell Ray Bans. There's alot going on there.

Those are two of the most killer rides I've ever seen. Hellings risers and Crocker tail light... sick...

The Knuck is cool, but the HRD would go twice yes TWICE as fast.
